Why Moms Should Stop Waiting for the Perfect Time to Work Out

Let’s get one thing straight right away: the perfect time to work out doesn’t exist. Especially not for moms.

We’re living in a world of diaper changes, snack negotiations, laundry mountains, and the occasional meltdown (ours or theirs—we won’t say). And in between it all, we tell ourselves, “Once things settle down, I’ll work out. Once I have more energy. Once the baby sleeps. Once the house is clean. Once I have more time.”

But here’s the truth: if you're waiting for the perfect moment, you might be waiting forever.

Real Talk: Mom Life Doesn’t Pause

There will always be something. Whether it’s teething, nap strikes, sick days, unexpected messes (why is there yogurt on the ceiling?!), or just plain exhaustion—your schedule is rarely going to open up and say, “Now’s the perfect time for Pilates!”

And that’s okay.

Because working out as a mom isn’t about perfection. It’s about consistency. And that consistency won’t come from a perfectly quiet house or a magically motivated mindset. It’ll come from showing up when it’s messy, loud, chaotic, and real.

Progress Beats Perfection Every. Single. Time.

Let’s redefine what a successful workout looks like.

It’s not a 60-minute session in a silent, candle-lit studio with lemon water and uninterrupted focus (I mean, goals, but come on). It’s:

  • 10 minutes of core work while your toddler throws stuffed animals at you.
  • A quick booty series during nap time.
  • Getting in a stretch session while watching Tom & Jerry (again).
  • Finishing most of a workout and giving yourself credit for what you did.

That counts. It all counts.

Here’s Why “Now” Is a Great Time:

  • Movement boosts your mood (which we could all use after that toddler tantrum).
  • It reconnects you to your body, especially postpartum.
  • You’re modeling self-care—your kids don’t just hear what you say; they see what you do.
  • You’re building momentum. And momentum is way more powerful than motivation.

Give Yourself Permission to Show Up Imperfectly

Your body doesn’t need a perfect setup to feel strong. It needs you to start where you are.

Maybe that means:

  • Rolling out your mat with laundry piled next to it.
  • Doing squats with a baby on your hip.
  • Stopping halfway through because someone needs a snack (again).

That doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re doing life—and weaving wellness into the cracks.

Final Word: Start Small, Start Messy, Just Start

If you're waiting for the stars to align, you’ll miss the magic of what’s possible right now.

So today, I challenge you: stop waiting. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Press play on a short workout (like the ones inside The Pilates Mom Studio 😉). Move your body. Feel proud. That’s enough.

You don’t need perfect. You just need to start.
