5 Ways to Involve Your Kids in Your Wellness Journey
Jan 28, 2025
As moms, it can feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to focus on our own health and wellness. Between school drop-offs, snack requests, and bedtime routines, our days are packed to the brim. But here’s the thing: prioritizing your health doesn’t have to mean carving out separate, uninterrupted hours of the day. In fact, some of the most rewarding wellness moments can happen when you involve your kids. Not only does this help you stay consistent with your goals, but it also sets a powerful example for your little ones.
Here are five simple and fun ways to involve your kids in your wellness journey:
1. Make Workouts Fun for Everyone
Kids have boundless energy, and channeling that into movement can be a win-win for everyone. Turn your workouts into a game by creating obstacle courses or doing challenges like “How many jumping jacks can we do together?” For younger kids, let them “help” by acting as a weight for squats or plank holds. Older kids might enjoy following along with a kid-friendly version of your Pilates routine or competing in a fun fitness challenge. We also have a couple of videos in The Studio for workouts with your toddler!
You’re not just squeezing in exercise—you’re creating memories and showing them that moving your body can be enjoyable.
2. Prepare Healthy Meals Together
The kitchen is an incredible place to teach your kids about health and wellness. Invite them to help you plan meals, pick out fresh produce at the store, or assist with simple tasks like mixing ingredients or arranging food on a plate. When kids feel involved, they’re more likely to try new foods and develop a positive relationship with healthy eating.
For example, you could make “build-your-own” smoothie bowls, letting them choose their favorite toppings like granola, fruit, or nuts. It’s a fun, hands-on way to talk about how different foods fuel our bodies.
3. Create a Family Wellness Routine
Accountability thrives on consistency, and creating a family wellness routine is a great way to stay on track. Set aside time for daily walks after dinner, Sunday morning stretches, or Saturday meal prep sessions. These rituals can help everyone feel involved while reinforcing the importance of taking care of our bodies and minds.
Even small practices, like doing a five-minute meditation together before bedtime, can have a big impact on your family’s overall wellness.
4. Use Wellness as a Learning Opportunity
Kids are naturally curious, so take advantage of their questions and curiosity to teach them about health and wellness. Explain why it’s important to drink water, get enough sleep, and eat nourishing foods. Share how exercise helps us stay strong and feel good.
For younger kids, you could make it interactive by turning lessons into stories or using visuals to explain concepts like “why muscles need fuel.” For older kids, involve them in setting small health goals for themselves, like drinking more water each day or trying a new vegetable each week.
5. Be a Role Model—They’re Watching!
Kids are always observing us—what we say, what we do, and how we treat ourselves. By involving them in your wellness journey, you’re modeling healthy habits and showing them that prioritizing self-care is important. When they see you choosing to move your body, eat nutritious foods, and take care of your mental health, they’re more likely to develop those habits themselves.
If you have moments where sticking to your wellness goals feels challenging (because let’s be real, life happens), share that with your kids. Let them see that health is a journey, not a destination, and that it’s okay to adjust and keep going.
By making your wellness journey a family affair, you’re not only staying committed to your own goals but also planting seeds for your kids’ lifelong health. It’s about progress, not perfection, and showing them that wellness is something we weave into our lives rather than something that happens on its own.
